Silver Fern Farms This fluidised bed boiler project won the Innovation Award and was highly commended in the Renewables section.
This boiler burns dewatered meatworks effluent sludge and woodwaste producing approximately half of the site's steam requirement and displaces coal as a fuel for steam production. It also means that the effluent sludge does not need to be disposed of by composting and landfilling. Aurecon acted as technical consultants and contract administrator advisors on this project.
